چکیده

The numerical methods of total variation (TV) model for image denoising, especially Rudin–Osher– Fatemi (ROF) model, is widely studied in the literature. However, the S 1 constrained counterpart is less addressed. The classical gradient descent method for the constrained problem is limited in two aspects: one is the small time step size to ensure stability; the other is that the data must be projected onto S 1 during evolution since the unit norm constraint is poorly satisfied. In order to avoid these drawbacks, in this paper, we propose two alternative numerical methods based on the Lagrangian multipliers and split Bregman methods. Both algorithms are efficient and easy to implement. A number of experiments demonstrate that the proposed algorithms are quite effective in denoising of data constrained on S or S, including general direction data diffusion and chromaticity denoising. 2012 Elsevier Inc. Applications of Lagrangian-Based Alternating Direction Methods and Connections to Split Bregman

Analogous to the connection between Bregman iteration and the method of multipliers that was pointed out in [59], we show that a similar connection can be made between the split Bregman algorithm [32] and the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) of ([29], [31]). Existing convergence theory for ADMM [23] can therefore be used to justify both the alternating step and inexact minimiz...

A comparison of the computational performance of Iteratively Reweighted Least Squares and alternating minimization algorithms for ℓ1 inverse problems

Alternating minimization algorithms with a shrinkage step, derived within the Split Bregman (SB) or Alternating Direction Method of Multipliers (ADMM) frameworks, have become very popular for `-regularized problems, including Total Variation and Basis Pursuit Denoising. It appears to be generally assumed that they deliver much better computational performance than older methods such as Iterativ...

Accelerated Bregman Method for Linearly Constrained ℓ1-ℓ2 Minimization

We consider the linearly constrained `1-`2 minimization and propose the accelerated Bregman method for solving this minimization problem. The proposed method is based on the extrapolation technique, which is used in accelerated proximal gradient methods studied by Nesterov, Nemirovski, and others, and the equivalence between the Bregman method and the augmented Lagrangian method. O( 1 k2 ) conv...

Bregmanized Domain Decomposition for Image Restoration

Computational problems of large-scale appearing in biomedical imaging, astronomy, art restoration, and data analysis are gaining recently a lot of attention due to better hardware, higher dimensionality of images and data sets, more parameters to be measured, and an increasing number of data acquired. In the last couple of years non-smooth minimization problems such as total variation minimizat...

A Practical General Approximation Criterion for Methods of Multipliers Based on Bregman Distances a Practical General Approximation Criterion for Methods of Multipliers Based on Bregman Distances Acknowledgements: I Would like to Thank

This paper demonstrates that for generalized methods of multipliers for convex programming based on Bregman distance kernels | including the classical quadratic method of multipliers | the minimization of the augmented Lagrangian can be truncated using a simple, generally implementable stopping criterion based only on the norms of the primal iterate and the gradient (or a subgradient) of the au...
